Hi Folks,
If you think my posts have been too short lately, even by my own standard, or that I haven’t been visiting your blog, you are right! I’m working on a book, my first–a compilation of short stories. It takes all the time that I can spare from part-time job and full-time motherhood. So, if you’ve been missing me, or there’s something you would like me to see/read, please post a comment on any of my posts. I do check my comments section daily.
And I miss you all too. The temptation to throw in the towel and just sit back and read all your wonderful posts is too great, sometimes making it difficult to concentrate on the task at hand. But this book is a dream that I want to realise before the end of the year. Not sure if I’d be successful in the given timeline, but I’m trying. Wish me luck!
With love
Shaily

Thanks Colin, can you remember any story of mine that you think MUST be included?

Lumme. No, Shaily. I think that collections of short stories work like novels. It is not always the best stories that work, it is the best collection. They develop a pattern rather than a theme. They will pick themselves. When you are happy (or, at least, happy enough) it will be write. I really look forward to reading it.

Thank you, Petra! I will need your guidance for self-publishing. Can you guide me as to how it is done and how long the process takes?

Sure! Happy to help. It’s all quite complicated though. Did you have any plans yet of how you want to do it?
I did it two different ways – the first was to read books on it, look at websites and then try to copy the method – I can dig out notes for you, but I found this really difficult, and I messed up lots, so I may not be that helpful. For my last book, I paid someone to do a cover and someone else to format the book – that was way less stressful!
The second way took a few weeks I think.

I m planning to go Amazon Kindle Way. Do I still have to create the cover for myself? I can do it. I have a friend who is a graphic Designer. 🙂

If you want to, you can! Kindle is a bit simpler, I think. I know nothing about creating covers, that’s why i paid someone else. but if you have someone who knows stuff like that and can give you advice, plus you have a few ideas, then why not? I know other writers do that.
I think the important thing is to be honest about what you want and what you’re capable of. I never paid for editing, because I could achieve a certain level of readability and I have a friend who is excellent at grammar and helps me out. However, I paid for advertising for Peddling Doomsday, because I have no social media skills. (not sure it helped much, but definitely less stressful than trying to do it myself.)

Thumbs up dear👌, I wish you success in your compilation. The end of the year is turning out to be a busy one for some of us. I’m also working on project. It takes all my time.

Thank you, Ngozi. Do tell me if you can think of any story that should make it to my compilation. 😁

Yes, the one about a husband that buys a carnivorous plant for his wife. To get her killed. The smart wife turned the situation around. Number 2, the prince charming that was sent on a task to become dragon foodor. Number 3, the elderly female landowner who falls in love with the new owner of her land. These 3 easily come to mind. 🤗 Good luck

Best wishes Shaily on your writing. We only get 24 hours in a day so most of us (including me) have to pick and choose what gets done, read, or written in that time frame. Im happy you set aside time to write. Gook Luck!

I am trying but it is my first and rather scary since my stories are not typical. They are shorter than short pieces of poetry and I’m unsure of finding any audience at all. I’ll need all the support I can get from the blogging community.

There is a market for everyone. Write a few more stories. You should be able to get an idea who your audience is.🙂
