When my world went crazy

You had walked in the room

For the first time

After we married

For love–

One that I had fought for

Against my world.

I was shivering with anticipation

As you kissed my cheek,

And then,

Without a preface,

You asked me

(On the day you wed me for ‘love’)

When my father would send the money.

When I answered,

I saw your face fall.

You hadn’t married me

For love, after all.

That day my world tumbled

Until nothing made sense anymore.

      1. It killed 10 years of my life. 4 years sticking with him and 6 years unsticking all the bitter memories that he left behind. He is the source of all pain in my poetry so sweet that way. Worst part, I still love him. I cried when he died, or rather i’m not even sure if i cried or ate or slept that night. I’ve found a better man but nothing like first love.

      2. That’s heartbreaking, I’m so sorry. Sometimes the cruellest people get the tightest grip on us – our crazy hearts. I’m glad you’re with a good person now. Somebody who loves you and will care for you no matter what has a thousand times the value.
